Due to its relatively ideological and geographic isolation from Switzerland, Geneva is almost like one of those old European “city states”.
Geneva lies in the Rhône Valley at the southwestern part of Lake Geneva (Lac Léman), between the Jura Mountains and the majestic Alps. The city is the capital of the canton of Geneva – which is the 2nd smallest canton in the Confederation of Switzerland; however Geneva is the 2nd largest city in the country and has a perfect setting on one of the biggest alpine lakes and within view of the pinnacle of Mont Blanc.
