Lugano is a Swiss town with a tangible Italian flavour, situated thirty-two kilometers South of Bellinzona and around 330km South of Zurich. The Italian influence is evident in Lugano’s cafes, sunny piazzas, picturesque cobblestone streets, and arcades. In a town designed mainly for walking, one can wander at leisure, exploring Lugano’s historic ancient streets.

Lugano has around 53 000 inhabitants, over an area a bit larger than 48 square kilometers. Although its dimensions are small, Lugano is of great importance for the regiona as well as international renowned resort.
The city is erected along the shore of Lugano Lake, which the Italians call Lake Ceresio. The summits of San Salvatore and Monte Brè rise on opposite sides of the city. These mountains protect Lugano from the cold alpine winds, and the climate is pleasant from March to November. As a cultural center of the Ticino, Lugano has attracted many artists and casual visitors, as well as is venue for few festivals.
