Weggis lies 30 kilometers east of Lucerne, on Mount Rigi. It offers mild climate as the one in Italy and there are many maintained gardens through which you can take a walk. Vitznau and Gersau are resorts similar to Weggis in climate and they are very close to it – an hour on foot or 5 minutes by car. The walks along the lakeshore are blissful and tranquil. A famous visitor of the resort is Mark Twain in 1897.

Weggis is preferred by many people. It can be reached by a steamer from Lucerne and by train via the international St. Gotthard railway line (Weggis is not part of the main line and does not have a train station).
From spring to autumn you can make numerous excursions in the area. There is a cableway which can take you to Rigi-Kaltbad (1 427 meters elevation) – a health resort up in the mountain. You can take walks not only along the quays, but also on the slopes of Rigi, most of which are planted with vines. There is also mountain transport, connecting Weggis with the Rigi Railways.

Getting There

There are daily steamers from Lucerne to Weggis and the trip lasts about 45 minutes. From the lake during the summer there is bus transportation to the upper parts of the town.
Only 10 kilometers away from Weggis there is the railway junction of Kussnacht. From there you can take a bus to the resort for about 10 minutes.
By car from Lucerne you should head east on Route 2, along the shores of Lake Lucerne and then continue south on Route 2b at the signpost for Weggis.

Visitor Information
The Weggis Tourist Office is open the whole day from Monday to Friday and till noon during the weekend. The office is closed the whole weekend off season. From there you can rent a bike and take a ride along Lake Lucerne.
