The western Alpine Swiss resort of Château d'Oex is situated in a beautiful valley at 970 meters elevation, which attracts visitors during any season. The ski village of Chateau-d'Oex as well as the nearby Rougemont provide travellers with a good range of activities, including but not limited to downhill and cross-country skiing, rafting and canyoning, swimming, great hiking paths, ballooning, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
Chateau-d'Oex is home to one of the biggest ballooning festivals in the Alps, held here each January. The resort has access to 250 kilometers of piste on the nearby Gstaad Mountain Rides pass which includes the railway running between the base lifts at most of the ski resorts en route. The village offers its guest several very good hotels and restaurants, as well as private accommodation, ski chalets and mountain huts in the area.

Chateau d'Oex Skiing Holidays

The Swiss resort of Château d'Oex (in Vaud) has direct access to fifty kilometers of skiable terrain, with twenty two individual runs, accessed by ten lifts. In addition to the skiing in Château d'Oex itself, part of the Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises skiing area, the appropriate lift pass will give one access to the ski slopes in other Glacier-Alpes Vaudoises winter resorts such as Anzère, Gstaad, Les Diablerets, Leysin etc. Château d'Oex has snowmaking facilities, there are three snow cannons ready to support the snow base when needed. The ten lifts of the resort have capacity of five thousand riders per hour.
Public transportation of trains and buses take skiers and snowboarders on the single pass over fifteen different ski resorts in the area, offering a total of six hundred kilometers ski slopes.
Chateau-d'Oex’s local Ski School also organizes mountain tours, off piste skiing, ski mountaineering and heli-skiing for the visitors. Beginners will enjoy the gentle ski runs of the local La Braye skiing area just above the village, but also have very easy access to Gstaad and larger cities of Switzerland beyond. The largest and most preferred intermediate skiing area nearby is above Schonried and Saanenmoser. A second large intermediate area, provides with snow sports above Rougemont and further to Saanen. Expert skiers and boarders are likely to enjoy several black runs, including the long one down from Monts Chevreuils to Les Moulins. Most of the ski resorts in the region have snowboarding fun parks, which will be enjoyed by the snowboarders and free riders. There are 3 terrain parks in the Schönried – Saanenmöser area, and another 3 above Les Diablerets and Villars.

Château dOex Après Ski

There are few resorts in the area where visitors are able to stop off in a cafe or bar after the slopes for a coffee or an après ski tipple without worrying you will miss the last ski bus to your hotel. One can get a train back to Château-d'Oex from Zweissemen, Saanenmoser, Rougemont, Saanen or Gstaad almost any time of the evening! There are also several cozy bars and restaurants in Chateau-d'Oex itself, as well as the La Bamba disco, which is often quite lively.

There are 4 airports within 2 hours drive from Chateau-d'Oex, so ski weekends, and short family holidays to the resort are very popular. The nearest airport is this in Sion, which is only one hour away by car.
