Situated above and around a small bay, on eleven kilometers south of Thun, Spiez is a cosy resort with mild climate, dominated by its medieval waterside (Thunersee) castle and some great views over the lake to the surrounding mountains. Spiez central location makes it easily accessible, as well as an excellent starting point for trips to number of places of interest in the Bernese Oberland and entire Switzerland.

Spiez Tourist Attractions and Holidays

The castle, Schloss Spiez, which dates back to the 15-16th centuries but with even earlier foundations, was once the residence of the Stretlingen family. One can visit some of the grand halls within and particularly recommended is the Baroque Banqueting Hall from 1614. The Romanesque church nearby, with its 17th century spire, has original antique frescoes. Strolling through the tiny streets around the castle and around the bay is nice way to get a feeling for Spiez.

Spiez Transportation

The village railway station is in nice shopping area above Spiez’ Old Town, beside which dock the boats from Interlaken and Thun. Usually the bay is dotted with yachts, as Spiez has a popular sailing school. The tourist office of Spiez is located on platform one of the station and except information provides with Internet access and bike hire facilities in the station.
