The holiday region of Disentis - Sedrun is located in the canton of Graubunden, set between 1130 - 1440 m. elevation at the source of the Rhine River. The tourism in Disentis has been popular for long time now and the resort is well equipped with all the facilities which are necessary for a ski, health and holiday resort, such as the Caischavedra railway, which provides access to magnificent skiing, hiking and mountain biking areas. The accommodation in the area includes over ten thousand beds, available to visitors in both - quality and discount hotels, holiday apartments, ski chalets and private accommodation.
The traditional Swiss village of Disentis is well known for its impressive baroque facade of its Benedictine abbey, erected somewhere around the year 750. Disentis is situated in the Rhine Valley and is dominated by the twin towers of the Benedictian abbey’ church. Another interesting site is the church Sogn Gion, which was reconstructed in 1643 and is home to the famous altar by Yvo Strigel from 1482.
The majestic Rhine River starts its journey in Sedrun at the foot of the Oberalp Pass. The area of Sedrun - Disentis is also home to the magnificent Toma Lake and to the start of the bicycle trail along the river.  In addition to the cultural tourism, skiing and snowboarding, the holiday area has on offer around 350 km of hiking trails, as well as a 9-hole Alpine golf course.

Disentis Skiing Holidays

The Disentis - Sedrun winter sports area offers everything skiers and snowboarders might want - both on and off piste.
The Gotthard Oberalp Arena in Sedrun and Andermatt has approximately one hundred and thirty kilometers of well-groomed pistes, some of which with snow cannons for artificial snowmaking. The area is also very suitable for family ski holidays – with safe, extra-wide runs and a great fun park and half pipe for boarders. The main skiing area in Sedrun also has a fantastic 3,5 kilometers long toboggan run.
The ski resort of Disentis has a cable car, which brings visitors up to the Caischavedra, from where one can get a chair lift up to almost 3 km elevation, and enjoy skiing or snowboarding on perfect snow cover. The sixty kilometers of ski slopes provide great snow sports for all ability levels. The resort of Disentis is also known to be a paradise for the free riders.
The 168 kilometers of downhill pistes, with eighteen individual runs, are accessed by ten ski lifts with capacity of 12600 persons per hour.

Disentis Transportation

The nearest airport to the Swiss resort of Disentis is this in Zurich.
By train one can get there from Zurich to Chur and then to Disentis with the Glacier Express.
By car either via Motorway A13, take the exit Reichenau - Stans Reichenau - Flims - Ilanz – Disentis; or via Oberalp Pass to Sedrun – Disentis.
