If you come a long way you might want to visit Switzerland with an airplane. The main international airports of Zürich, Geneve and Berne have some excellent hotel accommodation for those who arrive late or depart early in the morning and could have a nice rest after or before their flights near the airports. Zürich airport has a train station nearby and via the railways one can reach many Swiss towns and some destinations abroad. However, some other cities and resorts, usually the smaller ones could require train changes, often at Zürich HB (Haubtbahnhof - the central station of the city). The public transport in Switzerland is very popular for its quality. This valid for both the vehicles themselves and the punctuality of the timetable and schedules. Numerous of places of interest in Switzerland can be reached through a network of trains, busses, ships and gondolas. This network is also known as the Swiss Travel System, which can be used if have bought Swiss rail pass. You can buy a railway pass for Switzerland or Europe international railways from the train tickets form above. The main towns are connected by Inter-City trains which run approximately once per hour, the busiest connections often have at least 2 trains per hour. Swiss public transportation is quite safe and comfortable way to explore the country and although not all, but a lot of places can be reached using the public transportation of Switzerland. However, if you wish a more free schedule and explore the places of interest at your own pace, own or a rented car is also a good option.
