Morges

Morges is located 11 kilometers west of Lausanne and 26 kilometers east of Geneva. It is a small town on Lac Léman, near the Savoy Alps and is the centre of the vineyards in the region. The town is a beautiful place along the shores of Lake Geneva with many comfortable places for accommodation. International yachting is also very popular in the area.

Morges Holidays

A place you should not miss is the Castle of Morges built in 1286 by Baron Louis of Savoy. The bastion had a moat with a moat around it and the castle served as a residence and armory. Nowadays it is the home of the Vaud Military Museum (Musée Militaire Vaudois) where you can see exhibitions of weapons and uniforms from the 15th century to present days.

Chateau Morges Castle

Musée Alexis Forel is located at 54, Grand-Rue used to be an aristocrat’s house from the 15th century. Now there are collections of engravings, furniture from the 17th and 18th century, ceramics, dolls and 18th century objects from glass and silver. The exhibitions are all displayed in the setting of a former home. The museum is open during the whole week.
Perhaps the most interesting place in Morges is the museum Pavillon Audrey Hepburn. It is situated at chemin des Plantées in the near village of Tolochenaz – only 1,6 kilometers east of Morges. It can be reached by bus or on foot. The museum is housed by a schoolhouse from the 1950s, visible from the house where Audrey Hepburn lived for many years. The house itself is still the home of her son Sean Ferrer, but you can visit the schoolhouse and see many objects, part of her life. You will get to know her life as a movie star as well as an ambassador for UNICEF. The museum is open daily except for Monday. Near it you can visit Hepburn’s grave in Cimitière de Tolochenaz.
If the weather allows it you can rent a bike from the train station and take one of the most beautiful rides in western Switzerland. From the tourist office you can get maps and further information which will help you plan your route. From Morges you can go to Biere by passing through Lully, Bussy and Ballens. The trip will take you through loveliest scenery in the region – the vineyard around Lake Geneva. From Biere you can continue through Begnins and reach Fechy which reveals a great panoramic view. From there, go to Aubonne, Lavigny, Villars-sous-Yens, Lully and again to Morges. The whole trip is 56 kilometers long and takes around 5 hours and a half.
